1. Search online

To find the type of look I want, I use a search engine, Looking for words like boho or preppy if If I'm unsure I prefer to keep it simple.

Mostly I tend to spend time on social media, and observe how friends and celebrities dress, from casual outfits like sweatshirts and leggings to work-ready blazers and turtlenecks.

2. Look to off-duty and street style for inspiration

If I like the appearance of a celebrity or influencer, I tend look for photos of them when they're not on the red carpet. When they're not in the spotlight, what should they wear? What are they wearing for their OOTD? I find out who the celebrity's stylist is and take inspiration from them.

3. Take a stroll around the mall.

Look around for boutiques and designer shops. Pay attention to how the mannequins are dressed and look for things that appeal to you. Mannequins are often styled to show off different items from a shop, so this is a good way to find out which items are trending and to play with layering. Window shopping also works for online shopping—many brands have lookbooks available on their websites.

4. Check out the runway shows.

I don't have to go to New York Fashion Week to get ideas from runway shows; I can find any big runway show from the last 20 years on Vogue.com, for example, to find the fashion trends that work for me. It's much more convenient than window shopping. I may consider what popular themes will be appropriate for my wardrobe.

5. Look beyond fashion.

When looking for ideas, I usually keep in mind that they don't have to come from the fashion world. Botanicals, art, video, and animals can all inspire us. If I come across a flower with vibrant colors,i can even try to integrate them into an outfit. Many designers get their fashion ideas from this kind of real-world style inspiration. Outside of the fashion world, we can get ideas for a look that is Unique rather than trendy.
